Study at NPTC
Sport and Cultural Activities
Whilst you are studying at NPTC you may choose to take part in activities that are unrelated to your main programme of study. In particular, students enjoy a variety of clubs and societies ranging from sport to cultural activities, including music, drama, art and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, many of which meet on Wednesday afternoons.
If the sport or activity you want to follow is not offered at present, why not start it up yourself? We encourage students to organise activities themselves. You can join one or more of the clubs and societies at the Activities Fair that will be held during the first or second week at College – there will be posters on campus giving you all the details.
For students who are serious about their sport, we offer sports academies in the following sports:
- Rugby (Men's/Women's)
- Football (Men's/Women's)
- Women's Hockey
The purpose of the academies is to enable the sportsperson to combine their education with their sporting development. The benefits include:
- A structured training programme that is overseen by experienced coaches
- Personal performance monitored regularly by our team at the Sports Science Laboratory
- Training sessions and lectures are planned to avoid unnecessary clashes
- The chance to compete in the successful NPTC sporting teams
- Being part of national coaching schemes for your chosen sport
- If you compete regularly in one of the sports listed above for club, county or national teams, contact the Admissions Unit for a Sports Academy Application Form.
5 X 30
The 5x30 programme aims to increase the number of College students taking part in sport or physical activity for 30 minutes, at least five times a week.
The scheme increases opportunities for extra-curricular sport and physical activity, offering a range of activities for students regardless of ability. It will sit alongside and be separate to our already successful Sports Academy teams who engage in competitive fixtures on Wednesday afternoons.
It is the philosophy of Neath Port Talbot College (NPTC) to be as student- centred as possible; so from September, the programme of activities will be organised into designated slots in the timetable to make the activities more accessible. In addition the scheme also looks to deliver interdepartmental tournaments such as: five-a-side football, basketball and netball.
The new scheme looks to liaise with our partner schools; with the intention of putting on transition events where secondary school pupils can see the physical activity programme we deliver at NPTC and experience the excellent sports facilities on offer.
We also want your opinions to see what kind of physical activity you would like to take part in. This can be in the form of: fitness classes, individual racquet sports, or more traditional team sports such as football and basketball. And we are always on the lookout for student ambassadors across the College to help deliver the message.
The full programme of 5x30 activities on offer and their times and dates are available on the student Moodle. Please note, some activities have a limited number of places so please use the booking system in order to guarantee your place.
