| As a student of the Afan campus, I feel that we don’t get much say or much interaction with the other campuses or with the Students’ Union. I feel that if I was to be appointed as President, it would be my main aim to increase communication between the campuses and to make sure every single student of the Afan campus has their own say to improvements or ideas for the College. I am currently involved with the Interact Club at this campus, and I am a loyal member who has helped the club set up a website, email system and with the publicity side of the club. I also volunteer for the local radio station XS, and have been a committed volunteer since the start of 2009. I have taken part in meetings giving my own opinion and improvements for the station, as well as ideas that could not only benefit the station, but ideas to help improve the local community. I care about the College, and I care about all the students here. I feel that given a chance, I can make a difference. | |

| The reason why I would like to become President is because I feel that I could make a difference in College. I feel that I am a very approachable person and if students had any issues that they would like to share, I would make sure that they would gain help and support needed and that any problems they have would be addressed. I also share a good bond with staff members and I usually talk to them on a daily basis. As for the College environment, I feel that I could make it more enjoyable for everyone. I am a member of the Interact Club and I frequently share ideas on how to raise money effectively with a lot of fun involved. Even though students are in College to work, I feel that the more fun they have, the more students feel involved within the College. I am currently a member of the City of Cardiff Brass Band and National Youth Brass Band of Wales (NYBBW) and from both these assemblages, I have learnt a lot about leadership skills and how to represent an organisation in a correct and well-mannered way (as I was representing Wales at the time). I would give the same effort and commitment to the Students’ Union as I did to the NYBBW. I think a lot of the College and the students within it, and I could do a good job to make sure that their views are heard. | |

| I believe that I would make a suitable candidate for the post of Students’ Union President due to many reasons. Firstly, I have a key and active interest in politics; I am currently studying AS level government and politics and believe this knowledge I am gaining will be extremely beneficial if I were to become the Students’ Union President. Alongside government and politics, I’m also studying AS level Drama and Theatre studies, with the performance skills I have gained from doing this subject; I believe I have great public speaking and performance skills, which are vital when making speeches as the Students’ Union President. I am also currently studying AS level Critical Thinking, with the knowledge I have gained from this subject, I am able to construct and create a successful argument, which is a necessary skill when trying to put your point across. Before attending Neath Port Talbot College, I studied at Dwr-y-Felin Comprehensive School, where I was Head Boy. This taught me great leadership skills and also taught me how to successfully work within a team. However, the most significant way I have learnt team work skills is through doing my Duke of Edinburgh awards, I completed my Bronze and Silver Awards whilst I was in school and now I’m currently working towards my Gold. In my final year at school, I was awarded with ‘Neath Town Council’s Citizenship Award’, which is given to the pupil who has contributed most to the school, this contribution is something I could hopefully bring to the Students’ Union. |

| I am applying for the position of President of the Students’ Union because I believe that I have many qualities that would be useful as the Students’ Union President. I am very steadfast in my views in certain areas but I am always willing to listen to others and consider their opinions. I am very independently minded and dislike conforming to a particular 'type' of persona. I am kind-hearted and generous, which I feel is an important part of representing a diverse community such as the students of the College. I have been trained as a peer mediator so I have experience at being in the middle of disputes and I always try to find the diplomatic route to solving a problem as opposed to a confrontational solution. I have experienced bullying in school and I believe that there needs to be a zero tolerance policy on this issue as the best way to solve a problem is to stop it before it becomes one. I strongly believe in equal opportunities for everyone and feel that mutual understanding and acceptance is the key to any civilised society. | |
