The School offers a range of courses at all levels. Curriculum areas include:
Students enjoy a varied teaching experience. This includes a practice company for business studies. Students set up their own company, are appointed to various job roles and trade nationally and internationally. They attend trade fairs in both Europe and the UK and have been very successful in winning 'Best Company' awards for a number of years.
Students in Travel and Tourism organise events and in the past these have included a 'Ghost Evening' in Craig-y-Nos Castle, an 'American Themed Evening', and running a children’s Christmas party. They also have to visit a range of travel and tourism organisations in both the UK and Europe.
Uniformed Public Service students visit many service organisations including the police, army and the navy. The students are fit and enjoy health and fitness classes and orienteering in Margam Park and in the Brecon Beacons. The teaching staff are former service personnel and have excellent links with the armed forces.
Students with administration and IT skills have much sought-after qualifications required in today’s modern work environment. These courses provide students with the qualifications that employers seek. Students sit examinations when they are ready to do so and can leave to go into work with OCR Level 2 qualifications after one year, or complete a second year to attain Level 3 qualifications. Students on these courses are rarely unable to find suitable work on completion of their studies.
For adults, the School offers a variety of programmes. For students with a Level 3 or similar qualification, HNC/D Business or Travel and Tourism is available full-time or part-time day or evening. For budding accountants, the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification is offered part-time at Levels 2, 3 and 4.
Other part-time courses include: Computerised Accounting including Payroll; Small Business Management; the Certificate in Travel; Microsoft Office Applications and NVQ Administration. For returners to the workplace, the popular Hi-Tech Business Skills course is offered from 10am–3pm on a full-time basis to suit those with children at school. This course may provide childcare and travelling expenses. The course is an intensive course and enables students to gain a wide range of qualifications whilst in College with assessments undertaken when the student is ready.
The skills and courses delivered within the School equip students for both life and work and are skills employers require, as identified in the “Future Skills Wales Survey”.
