School of Horticulture, Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy
Overview
The School of Horticulture, Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy (HHB) lies within the Faculty of Business, IT and Sport. The School offers NVQs and vocationally based courses to students irrespective of ages, ability or background.
Accommodation
The School is based on two sites. Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy is based on the Afan Campus, whilst Horticulture is found on the Neath Campus.
Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy
This comprises of a main reception area, dispensary, three beauty salons, two hairdressing salons and a multifunction salon which services hairdressing and nail technology. All salons are commercial enterprises, and students work on clients. A wide range of treatments are offered in Beauty Therapy, ranging from manicures to acrylic nail extensions, body massage to body re-contouring treatments, eyebrow shaping to electronic face lifting to name but a few.

- In addition to the main areas, the school also has an IT pod in the library on the Afan Campus equipped with computers with access to both the intranet and Internet, a valuable tool in relation to research for projects and assignments.
Horticulture
The main site is based in Neath and serves as a teaching base.
There are a range of glasshouses & other facilities to provide students with opportunities to learn a variety of horticultural skills. Experienced staff provide tuition & support to ensure learners have the help & support to succeed in a fun and friendly environment.

Many of our students have gone on to work in a variety of roles within the horticulture industry, including running their own gardening and landscaping businesses, working for the National Trust, in private gardens and garden centres. Whether you are looking for a career or just a keen gardener looking to increase your knowledge, we have a course for you. We run fulltime, part time, daytime and evening courses, as well as short courses.

Floristry
Floristry is offered as both full and part time courses in spacious well equipped classrooms. Floristry incorporates both practical and theory sessions with compulsory work experience. Highly experienced and trained staff help you gain the practical skills and knowledge to meet the exacting standards required by industry.
Floristry offers you the opportunity to enter the prestigious RHS Show in Cardiff and Small Holder and Garden festival at Builth Wells.
Specialist courses run throughout the year including wedding and funeral flower workshops, contemporary floristry, taster days and 12 week OCN courses. Floral art is offered as a recreational course for beginners and experienced flower arrangers, with both basic and advanced techniques taught.


Curriculum Portfolio
The School offers a wide variety of courses, including specialist and up-dating courses. Students are able to progress both vertically and horizontally through the courses we provide.
Courses start at OCN Foundation Level 1 and students can progress to NVQ Level 3. All programmes of study can be accessed either through full- or part-time attendance. Students have the opportunity to gain full or part/unit qualifications in all awards.
Staffing
There are currently 13 full-time lecturing staff, five part-time lecturers and two trainer/technicians. All staff have relevant and up-to-date qualifications in their specific disciplines. Of these staff, there are seven Internal Verifiers. In addition to the lecturing staff, there are five technicians who service the three main areas of the School: Hairdressing, Beauty and Applied Therapies and Horticulture.
