Apprenticeships provide opportunities for students to gain nationally recognised qualifications such as NVQs, Key Skills and other technical qualifications. Apprenticeships provide an integrated programme of learning leading to acquisition of knowledge, skills and competence.
There are three levels of Apprenticeships in Wales:
The Skill Build programme offers opportunities for students to try out different jobs, up to a maximum of 13 weeks, in order to make an informed choice about their future career. Within this programme we are also able to offer students, who are not quite ready for an apprenticeship, an opportunity to gain an NVQ Level 1 qualification in a variety of occupational routes along with additional support with literacy and numeracy if required. (Age restriction apply to this programme.
The Construction Training Centre provides opportunities for unemployed adults to return to the world of work and gain an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Maintenance Operations. Students undertake off-the-job training at the Centre to improve their knowledge, motivation and confidence whilst attending a construction work placement to enhance their skills and competence.
The Centre also provides opportunities under the Skill Build programme for students who are 16-18 years of age.
